Mantelliceras
Hello everyone! I found this fossil in Valencia, Spain. It's from the lower cretaceous but I cant be more accurate. I dont know what it is but I assume it's some kind of bivalve or gastropod but cant find the specie. I recorded a video and uploaded on youtube, hope u can see it well, if not let me know and I will try to show you better. Any help is appreciated, thanks. Manticocerasman
are there chambers visible inside the fossil? it looks like a Nautilus to me. growing old is mandatory but growing up is optional.
Carl
I think it is a bivalve. I've seen that herringbone pattern before on clam shells.

Rockwood
6 hours ago, Carl said: I think it is a bivalve. I've seen that herringbone pattern before on clam shells. There is likely a directionality to the pattern, the way fish scales or the bottom of cross country skis slide better in one direction. It evolved as a mechanism for maintaining proper orientation of the animal.
