-Andy-
Hi all, I am at Malaysia right now, at a fossil-bearing site. Are these wood fossils? - Andy Looking forward to meeting my fellow Singaporean collectors! Do PM me if you are a Singaporean, or an overseas fossil-collector coming here for a holiday! Rockwood
I don't think it is wood. More evidence could change that though. A pile up of huge logs is not out of the question.

Rockwood
"argillaceous rocks are commonly carbonaceous." The look seems right to me. Diffuse remnants of plant material influencing the appearance of the rocks is as close to wood as I can make of the evidence.
DPS Ammonite
These look like contorted metamorphic rocks. Note a contorted vein in photo that probably was once straight. I see folds too. The layering is just too irregular for wood. In the rock description, the first two types (presumably the most common) of rocks are metamorphic: phyllite and slate. 2 My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned. A pile up of huge logs is not out of the question. This was a piece I picked up from the site. I showed it to a museum staff who said it was fossilized wood but he admitted he isn't a specialist in wood fossils. What are your thoughts on this? @ynot You know a lot about fossil wood. May I have your thoughts on this piece? Looking forward to meeting my fellow Singaporean collectors! Do PM me if you are a Singaporean, or an overseas fossil-collector coming here for a holiday! Rockwood
The new evidence has me nearly convinced that it is not wood. It is just more consistent with sedimentary structure.

Take a look under magnification to see if there is any cellular structures. I have seen some schists that look very much like wood and wood that looks a lot like schist - this could be either. The pieces shown in the first set of pictures look more like schist than wood, except for 5 and 6 which look more like wood. 1 Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys."
