I am becoming a huge fan of Graptolites

They are fascinating

And one can acquire a decent collection at relatively low cost

This arrived this morning

Dictyonema

Lower Ordovician

Morocco

@Tidgy's Dad
Any idea where these are found  ??
Formation ?

Real nice net pattern on this specimen. I like a good Graptolites fossil myself.

I too am a graptolites fan.  They seem to me to be underrated by the typical amateur fossil collector.  :headscratch:

I'm very fond of graptolites and dendroids myself and though I don't have one of these yet, I don't think this is Dictyonema.

I believe this is Araneograptus murrayi from the Fezouata Shale of the Zagora area, Draa Valley. Tis Tremadocian; near the base of the Early Ordovician in age.

Nice graptolites that you are obtaining! :)

Hey Adam, I've got a small piece of Clonograptus rigidus said to be from Zagora, but Arenig (lower) rather than Tremadoc. Does that location have both stages or is my received info wrong, do you know?

Yes, the Fezouata Formation is up to a kilometre thick and ranges through the whole of the Early Ordovician, the Lower Arenig (British name), known as the Floian Stage in the ICS, is the top 'half' of it.

OK.  I take it A. murrayi is a Tremadocian taxon, then..?

Dendroids often have longer ranges than other graptolites.

As far as I am aware, the species is limited to the Tremadocian in Morocco, but may have a longer range if it is found elsewhere.

I do not know.

That’s cool I don’t have any Mosasaur teeth in my collection sadly. I think I may have a small vertebra that @Tidgy's Dad sent me.

You should add one or two.

They not very expensive for their size etc....but don't let me influence you :Horrified:

Another Ammonite :

Ha, I was just researching my examples of this (posted them in the ID section), and apparently it should be Hoploscaphites nicolletii (note one 't')... If Discoscaphites, it will have another species name (conradi, gulosus or rossi, according to Wikipedia).
