I got this awesome dromaeosaurid tooth from @Runner64!  I’m going to treasure this baby forever!  I’ll post a couple of pics that @Runner64 took of the tooth himself, as well!

A Dremel and needle and thread. Start with the little ones.

Came home to two weeks' worth of mail, with some additional packages waiting for pick up at the post office. I even received something very lovely from Bobby Rico that will have to wait until a few other lucky recipients get theirs (so as not to spoil the surprise for those who have not received them yet!). 

 

First up is this very cute and diminutive Asaphus kowalewskii that was parked at the right price:

There are still a few holes in my Moroccan trilobite collection involving the more common species. This Paralejurus dormitzeri was a must-have given the preparation. A lot of these that go for cheap are done quickly and not so nicely. I paid a bit more for a higher quality specimen. There is some minor restoration on the lower right pygidium (the seller was up front about that).

Lastly (for today), a to-prep item from my Russian connection. A common Asaphus lepidurus, but I've enjoyed preparing these in the past and needed a few more pieces to work on over the winter.

Wow! Where can I acquire some Chinle Formation fossilized wood?

A bundle of packages from the post office this morning. First up is a winter prep project, Illaenus sinuatus from the Vilpovitsy quarry, Russia:

From Kinnekulle, Sweden, Pilomera fischeri. Bugs from Sweden tend not to preserve as well as their counterparts in Russia or Estonia, but those command a much higher price. I'm happy with this example

Hailing from Haellekis, Sweden, an adorable enrolled Nileus armadillo.

Also in the "adorable" camp is this small and enrolled Asaphus kowalewskii.

And finally, a fairly nicely preserved and prepared 9 cm example of Wenndorfia planus from Jbel Boulschral, Tafilalt, Morocco. The effacement of axis and pleurae separation is reminiscent of other homalonatids like Dipleura and Trimerus, and the tilted pedestal presentation makes it a nice display piece for the cabinet.

The Chinle formation is quite extensive and has outcrops in Arizona, Utah and New Mexico. The best known location is the Petrified forest in Arizona. It is easy to find pieces for sale on the web.

It is also known as "picture wood".

I know that they are the same species as the Petrified Forest wood, but I just have trouble finding some good pieces like that one. I’d love to own one of the pieces that were tinted green by Chromium, but I can’t find any good pieces of those.

I have been waiting for Christmas to open this one. It is a gift off probably the kindest of our members @caldigger .  A mixed pack of goodies including  postcard , a  lovely C. Megladon from South Carolina . My first meg  and two other incredible shark teeth in the matrix. I had this postcard when I a kid , it was part of a set that made a big panoramic  view of prehistoric creatures, I think.

From the top:  a lower tooth, either from a C. hastalis or I. planus ( both spieces have virtually identical lowers). Mid. Miocene, Temblor Formation,  Round Mountain Silt Member, Bakersfield, California.

On the right is a Isurus planus ( Hook tooth white shark) upper tooth. Same information as top.

Bottom is of course the C. Megalodon from Summerville, South Carolina. Miocene/ lower Pliocene.
