I have had a couple trips to my fav site lately too but you make me look bad that I don't get near as many pics (usually too busy searching and extracting and watching the rainclouds approach and judging time...) I forgot to even bring my camera yesterday!

They are laying about...you just need to know where to look. I wish they would congregate in piles ...well, no...that wouldn't be very much fun. Don't forget your camera!

I've got those to get started! Thank you for offering that - I kept stalling because I thought I'd just end up frustrated....which I still might. But if you can do a decent job with those tools, I can certainly give it a try.

...as the sun began to hang lower in the sky and the rain became inevitable, I spotted these...

...as well as this nice ammonite within a rock...

...but the rain has started and I need to get back to camp...

...a tarp shelters my beer sipping from the drizzle...I notice movement in my peripheral...holy smokes!...Elk in the desert...a first for me...

...I was amazed a how much ground they covered so quickly. I wish I had my camera when I first saw them! Very cool. As I watched them scoot through the shale and out of site...

...the sun peaked through before it final decent...

...what a great way to end the day! I wonder what tomorrow will bring ...

What's the weather like out there in the desert? I figured it is what it's like here--- 100 & up. I looked at Albuquerque & it was only 81! Wow! Wish it was that nice here.

Great pictures and finds! I always marvel that I don't see houses or people or cars or other evidence of civilization in your pictures. It is not like that in most of MD/VA at all. At the sites I collect, even when I try to take pictures along a river, there is usually someone on a jet ski or boat. Streams have bottles and other debris. Wooded areas have junked cars etc. The isolation at your sites really is neat. Plus you get to walk where no man has walked before, at least in recent times.
