Monica
Viola and I will be next... The following photos are from my Secret Santa who was incredibly generous - I love all of the items, but the La Brea Tar Pits beetle, the Albertan Baculites, and the Texan crinoid stem and petrified wood pieces are currently my favourites: (Oh, and my favourite bird is the Northern cardinal, so my Secret Santa had me completely figured out ). Viola's Secret Santa knew Viola very well, too - Viola loved the coprolite in amber and the dinosaur eggshell pieces, but she loved the super-articulated Dromaeosaurus toy even more - it is her current favourite toy . Thank you to both of our Secret Santas - we love our gifts!!! Merry Christmas to everyone! Monica

How long ago did they stop having Boar's head? 1600s when turkey came along? (I'm not curious how it tastes... I'll stick with my North American turkey, thanks!) That sounds like one of those weird 1950s recipes that you see in old recipe books. I used to see such things at potlucks, perhaps from the tail end of that generation that made those. I guess whisky is popular all over (as is vodka, wine, etc). What is 'ned'? I grew up with it too, tho' that was in the 80s as I was not yet around when it originally aired... It has been aired almost constantly on one channel or other since it first came out and I still catch an episode now and then when I happen across it. The original series is still the best! Pardon my dredging up older posts. After a big wind storm our power has been out here for the last 3 days so I could not get on the computer. Playing catch-up now! I was going to show our dino ornaments but because of the storm and various other factors, we're just going to put up a 2nd-hand fake tree for the first time in my life and it won't hold many decorations, so I doubt we'll be seeing those this year. Hopefully next year. 'Ned' is a typo for new... For instance there is a guy producing really interesting whisky from A to Z in the Alps ...
Wrangellian
I'll post mine now. I actually opened it yesterday while our power was still out (for the third day, so I was going batty and needed something to do). Still Xmas Eve here but I know it's Xmas for much of the world already! We're the last to receive Xmas here on the West Coast of N.A. Pretty sure I know who my SS was too, but won't mention. Thanks Santa! Nice selection of Paleozoic fossils, and crystals. There was no info accompanying these Carboniferous floral plates. I didn't try real hard but the photography is difficult because of the glossy coating. Hell, all of the photography is difficult for me! Cambrian (I assume Upper?) Trilo-bits from Eau Claire Fm of Strum, Wisconsin: Ordovician snails from Galena Fm of Fillmore Co, Minn. (Looks familiar! Hmmmm...) I know which ones are Maclurites and Hormotoma, but not sure which of the others are Liospira and Treponema... will do some sleuthing unless I get a direct answer here. Anybody? One has a rounded whorl, the other has an edge to the whorl. And the crystals - Iowa and Minnesota. Some of these items broke in transit but I've got all but one reglued already, no worries.

The gravy could get in through the spaces in the links. snolly50
Happy Christmas to All! Yes, Secret Santa is real! snolly received a wondrous bounty of fossil treasures. Surely that naughty/nice thing was called off for this year! I will say that snolly's Santa displayed the true sense of Christmas - giving. What generous largess! Photos will be posted later this evening after some family travel. For now, thanks for this spectacular Forum activity and many, many thanks to my wonderful, generous, thoughtful (and blind eye to snolly's many faults) Santa!!!!!!! 6 Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, also are remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. - Douglas Adams, Last Chance to See
