Adam86cucv
Evidently I was quite the good boy this year according to Santa. As my Santa puts it he sent me an "Eocene Castle Hayne collection in a box" First an overall picture 1: The large vert and the flat blade like rostral teeth are sawfish. Pristis lathami is the common identification of these from the Castle Hayne, however I have mine labeled Pristis sp. The round items are Cylinddracanthus rectus. There are also ray barbs and a piece of turtle bone. 2: Echinoderms. The small sand dollar is Periarchus sp. The small echinoid is Echinocymus parvus. Several starfish ossicles also. 3: Hexanchus agassizi 4: Sawfish verts. Pristis sp. 5: Physogaleus secundus 6: Alopias latidens 7: Macrorhizodus praecursor 8: Carcharocles (Otodus) auriculatus 9: Cuttlefish "beaks" Anomalosaepia mariettani. 10: Striatolamia macrota 11: Various fish teeth and verts. the long thin dagger like teeth are Trichiurides sagittidens. The round "drum like" tooth is likely Albula. 12: Abdouinia enniskilleni 13: Pseudabdouinia clairbornensis 14: Heterodontus sp. Really had to get a decent picture of. 15: Nebrius thielensi 16: Anomotodon sp. 17: Various shark verts 18: Scyliorhinus sp one could be Premontreia subulidens. Hard to get a good picture of as well 19: Galeocerdo eaglesomei 20: Galeorhinus and / or Pachygaleus. I have a hard time differentiate between the two genera. Hard to get a decent picture of. 21: Brachycarcharias lerichei 22: Odontaspis carolinensis 23: Carcharias sp. 24: Probably Macrorhizodus 25: Negaprion sp. 26: Undet. various shark teeth. The one with the bent blade is likely Scoliodon sp. 27: Eurhodia ideali 28: Plicatoria wimingtonensis 29: Chlamys cookei 30: undet mollusc 31: undet mollusc 32: Periarchus lyeli 33: Echinolampas appendiculatta 34: undet mollusc Thanks again to Santa for your generosity! 1
Scylla
Well, time for mine. My Secret Santa package came from someone who shares my wife's last name and at least 4 letters of the first name. The label was scratched a bit so I thought my wife had sent me a package! But she would never get me more fossils. It took awhile and careful inspection to figure out what had happened. First off some very nice Moroccan cephalopods. Next, some shells from the coast of Oregon. Followed by a Texas cretaceous assembly including heart urchins, gastropods, and other denizens of the deep. My favorite of the entire package is this lovely crab fossil! Thank you Santa, whomever you are. I will close with a picture from a coworker who never heard of Tully monsters until I showed them some, drawn on my Christmas card. fifbrindacier
Hi everybody, today, most of the packages arrived and photos of them posted. But some among you received their parcels and didn't post photos and, concerning some of you, indon't even know if you received your parcels. The parcel @MSirmon seems to be stuck at the customs since December the second and we still don't know if @Notidanodon took delivery of the parcel his Santa sent him. I know that's a time of holidays we like to spend in our families, the post services are overwhelmed and that huge icy storm is striking a lot of US States right now, si, maybe you just don't have electricity. I hope you're all safe and healthy. Stay inside as much as you can and please, keep all the sweet warmths you can gather during those days of celebrations, in your body, your mind and your heart. PaleoNoel
While I must admit that I caved to temptation and opened up a couple of the fossils before Christmas rolled around, I saved the majority of them for the morning of the 25th. I was lucky enough to receive a hefty package of great ammonite specimens from New Mexico’s Carlile Shale. I believe these are the first fossils in my collection from the Turonian age, which helps to further complete my Cretaceous fossil timeline with an additional piece of the grand puzzle. Thank you so much to my Secret Santa! I’ll share who I believe it could be from at the end of this post, but first let’s see some of those ammonites! the ammonite haul! Prionocyclus hyatti Placenticeras pseudoplacenta Spathites puercoensis. My first guess as to who my secret Santa is would be the one and only @PFOOLEY 1
