I treated myself to a rather nice moroccan pterosaur tooth with a root and a decent sized carcharodontosaurus tooth, and a wolly mammoth tusk that i love

Unfortunately mailbox scores are not always good things.  This reply deals with two pieces of petrified wood that supposedly contained blue botryoidal chalcedony and yellow agate that I recently purchased from Indonesia.

This is what I ordered, absolutely stunning:

This is what I received, absolutely heartbreaking to me:

6003430e58177_PPdispute4.jpg.cb0af89763b491bf0e9c00932fa14600.jpg

The first issue was the botryoidal chalcedony was light gray versus blue.  All Indonesian sellers wet their petrified wood and stone to bring out the colors for their pictures.  However, even wetting these pieces I could not get the blue color.  I could get a nice blue color by shinning my high powered UV light directly on the botryoidal chalcedony while taking the pictures.  So I'm convinced the seller did something similar or used a camera lens filter to take the pictures.  With petrified wood the color blue always brings a higher price, so sellers do things to bring the blue color out or to create a blue color.

The major issue was the yellow agate all over both pieces was missing/removed.  The seller freely admitted that the vivid yellow agate was removed from the pieces before they were sent to me.  Check out the six areas in an original photo and the six areas in the two photos of what I received.  Also check out the photos of the backs of the pieces.  The red circles show where the yellow agate was removed.  The seller most likely sold the yellow agate to a jewelry maker.

The seller doesn't understand why I have a problem with what he sent.  He even offered out of his generosity to send me something good the next time I bought from him.  This is why you should always use PayPal and not other payment methods when buying from foreign sellers especially those in Indonesia.  I will file a dispute with PayPal and then escalate to a claim if the seller won't refund my purchase price plus shipping costs.   What bothers me the most is that this seller destroyed two incredible pieces to get a few dollars more for the yellow agate.

That is a real shame @MarcoSr very unethical from the seller, they saw no issue selling you something then removing half of it before sending it to you? Shocking, :shakehead:hopefully you get your money back quickly, :) this is why I won’t send money as a friend the first time I buy from someone I don’t know

Probably why the seller originally wanted a bank transfer or Western Union payment, but I insisted on PayPal.

I received a great collection of New Mexico Cretaceous fossils from @NMFOSSILS99 today as part of a trade--ammonites, brachiopods (my first), gastropods, and shark teeth!

That's huge!  Also it looks like you could use it as a martial arts weapon.  That thing could take an eye out!

:D

It does look menacing. Although entirely speculative, the triangular cephalon may have been useful as a kind of prow or plow to assist in burrowing in sediment. The closest morphological type over here in Ontario would be Ectenaspis homalonotoides, which is not as “extreme” in the tapering of the cephalon and pygidium.

A sauropod tooth from Kem Kem. A bit damaged at the back, unfortunately. But at 5cm, its a good sized one. I think its unidentified Titanosaur rather than Rebbachisaur because is quite fat.

Spotted this on a popular auction site and it seemed a real bargain. My daughter didn’t hesitate in snapping it up for her ichthyosaur collection. There’s also what the seller described as a lobster in there too (bottom middle on first pic)
