That’s a wonderful photo, I love the focus of the pines in the foreground!

While I was out hunting for a site to look for fossils near me, I found this friendly little fellow on the side of the country road. The site I was looking into had been high fenced in the last couple years, but seeing this nine banded armadillo was a nice experience!C533982F-C825-45C9-94CC-9CCAAA34016E.jpeg.7d5a0a4f7ad177def297410c8e38627c.jpeg1280C7B0-05AF-441A-BEB8-1E3D5D716804.jpeg.5ff0538aae18658df97c36846bcc2546.jpegFDB2CC4F-3E7B-4ACF-B6E0-E7B256C161D9.jpeg.aa1ed70ba2bb65f85267b9798763c806.jpeg

Thanks for this thread! Nature photography has been a lovely outlet for me. I took it up in June and it has led to some awesome adventures. Here are just some of my favorites:

I) Snowy owl - Toronto, Canada, December 2021

II) Northern saw-whet owl - Toronto, Canada, November 2021

III) Grizzly bear - Glacier National Park, MT, August 2021

IV) Bald eagle (juvenile) - Burlington, ON, Canada - August 2021

V) Eastern coyote (juvenile) - Toronto, Canada - November 2021

Before I started fossil hunting, I was mostly a herper, meaning I went out finding and photographing snakes, primarily. While none of my photos reach close to the same stature as a few on this thread, here are some that I like:

A "periscoping" rough green snake, in one of the few instances where you can find them on the ground:

-MG-6965-Original.thumb.jpg.c186c1c382877ffda9d6baf3eafea3b6.jpg

Another periscoping snake - this time a young eastern copperhead:

Here's a glossy crayfish snake, a bit less common and a super lucky find - I had to catch this little guy first to get some photos of him:

-MG-7129-Original.thumb.jpg.e922ad911faac1cc3a6c0535378fdfb2.jpg

and also just for fun - a proud Rainbow Scarab I found late in the season. This lone male was bruting out the wind when I found him, and moved to a less exposed area afterwards.

P.S.: Spotted a Luna Moth (Actias luna) out on my deck tonight after finishing dinner. It was fluttering around in the deck lights till I turned off the lights to let this one find a mate without distraction.

Wow, I haven't seen one of those in a lonnnnnng time (ten years maybe). They're really cool animals, their body kind of resembles a bat, their wings look like leaves, their spots look like lizard eyes, and their antennae look like leaves from the carboniferous ferns we often see fossilized on here. Glad you were able to catch a picture of one.

I see these quite often, but not usually in good condition. I saw this one yesterday and thought it was nice enough to photograph. It is a type of fungus called an Earthstar. No idea how to tell the species apart. It belongs in the family Geastrales.

Wonderful common name! Thanks for showing us something that is likely novel to most of our members.

Geaster : the 'branches of the star' open or close around the central part (releasing the spores) depending on the atmospheric humidity,  this mushroom can thus be used as a natural hygrometer. (it always amused my children when we found some ones)

Freed from her yearly sojourn in Hell, Persephone lightly touches the sere turf. As ever, Life will not stay bound by Winter and Death. It springs forth, eternal and triumphant. Persephone smiles, and trees bud forth. Her Joy at her seasonal release from the Dark radiates to all who have been sleeping...

Its not just in the southeast, it reached 70 in Denver today, warmth is on the way, even to Minnesota. What's the cloud cover like? I know you were hoping to view an ISS transit coming up.

@Top TriloSpring is a ways off yet. In fact, I drove my truck out on the Mississippi river to ice fish today. The ice was so thick, my ice auger almost failed to reach water. The weather forcast is cloudy.

The forecast says 84 for tomorrow here in the SC hinterlands.

I hope those clouds take an opportune break.
