Huntonia
That is one beauty of a horse tooth, it has just the right amount of river wear to give it that awesome glossy sheen without ruining the details. That, in my opinion at least, is about as nice as they come!

fossilsonwheels
Diverse stuff today from 3 different sources. From one one source in the UK, we got our Jurassic Squatina teeth, an Eocene Heterodontus, and our first modern Sawfish piece. The Squatina is the last one we needed so that display is now complete. Another UK source provided two Paleocene teeth from Morocco, a Squalus and a Chiloscyllium. We had also picked up a 4” lower Meg. Not in the best shape but was a great bargain. It’ll go in the Meg evolution display. These teeth get us one step closer to finishing up the taxonomic displays so I’m pretty happy with them.
Jackson g
I purchased this nice Spirifer Brachiopod while passing through Boone County on my way to St. Louis this past weekend for a few bucks. It's one of the nicer Pennsylvanian brachs I've seen from Missouri. It is even fluorescent, and glows a nice orange color under shortwave uv (although my camera picks up a green color)! A shame the one behind it isn't.
caldigger
I find it nar impossible for my phone camera to pick up the same colors that my eyes do. . Your brach is a beauty non the less.
Huntonia
I'm not much of a brachiopod person myself but that is a stellar piece! Always nice to get them in person vs. online, sadly the walk in fossil shop seems to be quite the rarity in many places.

Praefectus
Since my birthday is next week, I got myself a little present. Here is a 2 inch Hemipristis serra tooth. It has two marks on it that I believe were caused by the lower tooth scratching the upper tooth while they were still in the shark's jaw. I am amazed by the size and serrations on this tooth. So pretty. I have another fossil coming in the mail that I will post about when it arrives.

The color of the matrix (especially the first) really resembles the oil shale that the fishes in the 18 inch layer of the Green River Formation are found in. At first I only briefly glanced at the fishes which looked so similar to the common Knightia eocaena that are found there. I had never heard of Dapalis macrurus before and a quick image search showed that the prominent dual dorsal fins confirm these are no Knightias. The preservation (and even matrix) look so similar to the Green River Fishes (which I know just a little about). Could you explain a bit more about the formation that these come from in France? Cheers. -Ken Hi Ken, Back in the late 80's to early 90's a couple of French dealers used to bring a number of Dapalis specimens to the Tucson shows, especially the one in the Desert Inn. I picked out a small plate that also had a leaf on it (the only one he had like that). There's a photo of it somewhere here on the forum (either in the late Frank Menser's thread - something like "Let's see your fishes" - or in Gery's thread of fossil associations). I haven't seen any at a show in years but see one for sale on the web sometimes. You can find Dapalis at a few sites in France. At one of them there is another fish, Prolebias. At another collectors have found bats, very rare of course, spiders, and flies. When I bought the Dapalis specimen, my friend also had a book written by another friend of his, "Sites Fossiliferes du Sud-Est de la France," by Christian Ollivier, and i bought that too. It shows fossils from southeastern France and reviews fossiliferous sites there. It was a good buy because I haven't seen it for sale elsewhere. Huntonia
Well the auctions have not been going my way lately, however that has allowed me to expand my budget some, and today my first actual purchase of the decade arrived. This rough Harpes perradiatus. I wasn't expecting much, it was very cheap for what it is, but I was quite pleasantly surprised today. It has quite a number of fairly well preserved sensory pits, something I was worried about. Between that and the species being a hugely iconic one this was a great purchase for me and an amazing way to start the year! This is also great timing as here in the mostly rainy state of Oregon the sun is finally permitting decent photography again.
