The Goniatite from @Manticocerasman arrived today as predicted. Exactly what I was expecting plus a nice little extra. Thanks Kevin! I think I'm going to have a go at preppng this down some more. I can see that the piece at the mouth aperture has been glued back on and that there may not be any more fossil substance within it, but I think I can at least sculpt out the form. I'm also curious to see how the preservation is on the reverse side, so even though the matrix apears to be extremely hard, I think I may have a peek there too.

And here's the nice little surprise he included. A pyritized Goniatite still in the matrix. Looks like I'll have to use the stylus on this one too. Kevin, can you please tell me the provenance on this one? Is it the same as the one above?

Goniatites.jpg.e8da2ea0f9d5b30aca5344a9616f22f6.jpg

I'm glad they arrived safe and sound.

The little pyritised one is from the same location and same genus ( both Manticoceras sp. ) It comes out of a nodule from the Matagne formation.

the small one will be relatively easy to prep.

But the matrix on the other one is realy hard, I had almost no succes on prepping them on the back side, appart from a few lucky splits. but with some propper tools you could alwas try to clear up a little bit.

I'll have a go an a few of them in the near future, but I will first try to remove as much of the matrix as possible with a powertool and try to do the rest with an airscribe.

this is a risico as I have to now exactly how the fossil is situated in the rock.

Nice goniatite and the little pyritized one is a lovely bonus which could look really super if you can manage to prep it. :)

It popped out of the matrix in record time. It even popped so much that it left a hole in the middle, but I think it's nevertheless just fine. Still working on the big one, though. That's a bit more tricky.

Here's what my arm and a leg got me recently I was a little concerned it was not going to arrive, but it showed up finally. One more item from the same location has yet to arrive, but it was sent later.

I can't believe what I spent on this little impression, but it's a significant impression, being from the Ediacaran/Vendian. Albumares brunsae, a Trilobozoan like Tribrachidium, the only representative of that whole phylum(?) in my collection. Too many other bidders out there want these things too!

Forgot to add scale, but the disc is about 14mm diam.

Also a little quadruplet of Sphenothallus sp. worm tubes? from Lindsay Fm, Collingwood Mbr, Bowmanville, Ont.

I traded away my last couple examples from that location so I'm glad I was able to replace them (as I figured I would sooner or later)!

Unfortunately some flaking has removed bits off some of the tubes, but it's not so bad, especially as there are 4 on this piece.

@Ludwigia Nice, how did you remove it? Did you cut of most of the matrix and removed the rest with an airscribe?

I used airscribe and abrader. No need for a saw, since my scribe is powerful enough. I can even sculpt with it using different blades when necessary.
