A mailbox Santa Gift to myself (?) .. yes .. to myself.  A beautiful etched C. auriculatus from North Carolina. It's as if a little worm went on a chewing spree .. but it gives these chompers some character.

Cheers,

Brett

I finally got my Christmas present from wifey today, which is great as it's the second Christmas Day for us. :yay-smiley-1:

It was an auction win from this very site, courtesy of Tom @fishguy

And how wonderful it was, you may have to bear with me for a while whilst I post a shed load of photos.

First up, from the Cretaceous Pierre shale, from which i already have some lovely pieces, is this marvelous Eutrephoceras nautiloid from Glendive, Montana.

20181129_113329.thumb.jpg.4a904ab163826ee0e5cb6cdc3d379cc3.jpg.4e18269529b222611213fd4edcaa2b69.jpg

20190107_175343-1.thumb.jpg.1a061dab45b4c0d57afa3dc34a9bee53.jpg

Here is the reverse where you can see more of the whorls :

20190107_175449-1.thumb.jpg.abe470f24270a9ac15f4940d50ae205f.jpg

20190107_175515-1.thumb.jpg.000d9fd691e3cb95a46da1f46c2c7920.jpg

Unfortunately, it got broken into three in transit.

20190107_175629-1.thumb.jpg.aa4ca5ee5dde6cc68a699773b22ea30e.jpg

But one can actually see more of the internal structure and innner whorls, so I'm quite happy!

20190107_175651-1.thumb.jpg.084e1380bbbaf65441d6e6bfe7ebe827.jpg

And I found this tiny little bivalve among the broken bits.

The next batch of my awesome auction win and Christmas present from wifey was Devonian material from Independence, Iowa.

It was these two nautiloids that attracted me to the lot most of all as not only do i love brachiopods, but I like to build up a picture of the communities that they lived in, and always wonder what was preying on them. Maybe these nautiloids ate brachiopods, perhaps trilobites or smaller nautiloids, I don't know, but these are great, most of the nautiloids I do have are pretty small.

20181129_112325.thumb.jpg.60418bbcec8d03f03cfd47c33dd820b7.jpg.65a5018aaf7cfdba5c0014f732918b20.jpg

The one on the left is quite large, but the one on the right must have been a monster! And it's a curved nautiloid as well, my first, I think! :)

And two more bonus items in the box were these smaller nautiloid pieces.

I don't.  We find them a lot but hard to identify.  We think the gyroceras is Tetranudocerus transversum not sure of the spelling.  It is i the Index Fossils of North America by Shimer and Shrock
