I used airscribe and abrader. No need for a saw, since my scribe is powerful enough. I can even sculpt with it using different blades when necessary.

Time for me to invest in a more powerful compressor :P

I curently use a silent compressor on my appartment and it isn't quite powerful ( only 2-3 bar ) so probabbly if I use one op to 7 bar it wil go a lot better.

growing old is mandatory but growing up is optional.

It popped out of the matrix in record time. It even popped so much that it left a hole in the middle, but I think it's nevertheless just fine. Still working on the big one, though. That's a bit more tricky.

I've missed this post, good to see the small one came out right :)

My scribes work at a maximum of 2.3 Bar, so maybe your type of scribe isn't so strong? Or doesn't your compressor put out that much pressure?

hmmm, I'll have to check this evening and have a go on a specimen. I have a few massive goniatites waiting for some serious prepp I hope I can get them out of the matrix one of them is more than 15cm in diameter.

Here's what my arm and a leg got me recently I was a little concerned it was not going to arrive, but it showed up finally. One more item from the same location has yet to arrive, but it was sent later.

I can't believe what I spent on this little impression, but it's a significant impression, being from the Ediacaran/Vendian. Albumares brunsae, a Trilobozoan like Tribrachidium, the only representative of that whole phylum(?) in my collection. Too many other bidders out there want these things too!

Forgot to add scale, but the disc is about 14mm diam.

That's a pretty unique acquisition!  I have exactly 0 Ediacaran fossils in my own collection.

I'm surprised! But then you mainly collect your own fossils, don't you? Pretty hard to do that with Ediacarans. Do you know about a quarry in North Carolina that produces supposed Ediacaran fossils - little blobs or discs (Aspidella?) I don't know if it's private or public.

This cute little Hewenia Anacantha trilobite from the Late Cambrian found in Guangxi China was waiting for me today. :trilo: IMG_20190128_194930994.thumb.jpg.7d28fe2111fbdf9d1b81fb66f88610cb.jpg

There’s actually been quite a few types of Ediacaran fossils found in North Carolina. I believe that they are leftover from when Siberia was connected to North Carolina or something like that? There really haven’t been any major fossiliferous deposits found, but they have been found scattered all over in random places. A few frond-like fossils (cf. Pteridium I believe) have even been found. So with a bit of luck you could find something quite cool.

I've seen that Pteridinium in a book, but doubt anyone could go back to that area and likely find anything, as it's probably already been scoured by searchers (though you never know). But I suspect this quarry I'm referring to is still productive, given that there are specimens for sale on the auction site, and when one is sold, the seller pulls out another. If I lived in that area I'd look into it - maybe it's possible to get in there and collect some yourself?

Recent acquisition representing the 100th species of trilobite in my collection. Asaphellus fezouataensis, Vidal 1998.

Not the biggest one, not the most pristine one, but the price was dirt floor cheap and the seller - a collector himself - was a real delight to interact with.

There's a popular meme that can be repurposed for that: the "We're going to need a bigger boat" one. :D
