Then there were a couple of insects from the Parachute Creek Member.

I used to have a Knightia fish from the Green River, but had to sell it when times were hard. Nice little thing.

Anyway, i don't really do much in the way of insects and wasn't too attracted by these, though i have a couple of insects that i love, one or two in amber and some beetle bits from the UK.

Oh, and i did have a tar beetle from the US at one time.

But I digress, again.

Finally, there was the small matter of a dinosaur bone, a possible hadrosaur partial pubis added on to boost the bids.

Not my thing at all, but quite interesting for some.

Jigsaw puzzle?

You ain't seen nothin' yet.

Sadly this seemed to be packed at the top of the parcel, but it was delivered upside-down.

The hadrosaur bits were pretty mangled and in some places reduced to dust, i'm afraid. :(

I think the brown piece is of polished fossilized wood, maybe from Montana?

The special thing about black opal is that it is a matrix opal that consists of black basalt as matrix dotted with colourful shiny opal.

Did manage to make some pictures with my cellphone microscope though! :)
The special thing about black opal is that it is a matrix opal that consists of black basalt as matrix dotted with colourful shiny opal.

I recently got a few mixed bags of small shark teeth from dakhla, I enjoy going through these mixed bags to see what hidden gems I can find. I was pretty stoked to pick out this Misrichthyes stromeri teeth, including a good sized upper and lower! They seem to be pretty rare and we’re a new species for my collection.

Always good to add a new species to ones collection. :)

Today I arrived at my grandparents home after school. There was a package from Canada waiting for me.

5c3e28110a75f_2019-01-1518_44_14-50534707_289429878437166_3344753430127181824_n.jpg-IrfanView(Zoom_1122x631-kopie.png.d548f91754c4dc4db4fef3dc353f26d0.png

It was very safe packaged.  All fossils arrived safely and in one piece. 5c3e28c5cebb7_2019-01-1518_44_40-49900153_2325727020784828_1380623095634591744_n.jpg-IrfanView(Zoom_1122x63.png.ec49e901acd7e1e6f0b426d6b023eb73.png

So here they are. Excuse me for the blurry pictures, but my phone seems to be as old as some of the fossils in this package. Not all fossils are showed (because some are too small) but they should all be mentoined.

1: Mucrospirifer from the South pit of Hungry Hollow

Arkona, Ontario, Canada

2: Cretaceous Scapanorhynchus (Goblin shark) from Cambridge crossing, NJ, USA.

3: Amber from New Jersey, USA. Nice additions. Another place I can cross from my list.

4: Horn coral: Heliophyllum? from the South pit of Hungry Hollow. Arkona, Ontario, Canada. This one is soooooo amazing. Within the coral there are a lot of cool small fossils (crinoid parts). I will have to look at this through my microscope. Very, very cool. It's like a mini-ecosystem on it's own.

5: Eldredgeops rana cephalon from Penn Dixie. Hamburg, NY, USA. Cool cephalon. I think I could prep it a bit further.

6: Greenops pygidium, also from Penn Dixie.

7:Spinocyrtia granulosa from Penn Dixie. Amazing detail on this beautifel brachiopod.

8: My very first Hash plate. Super cool. A lot of cool fossils. Also from the South Pit.

Besides the ones on the pictures I also received:

- Nucleocrinus elegans blastoid. From the Devonian of Silica Shale, Paulding in Ohio.

- Some orthoconic nautiloids Bactrites arkonensis from the mid-Devonian South pit of Hungry Hollow, Arkorason, Canada

-  Horn coral: Steredasma rectum from Penn Dixie. Hamburg, New York, USA. Also mid-Devonian.

Thank you @Monica for these amazing fossils. Including my first hash plate, my first blastoid, my first Canadian fossils and a lot of other 'firsts'.  I especially like those Hungry Hollow fossils. I definetly should get more from there.

Lovely parcel! :)

I adore the Hungry Hollow stuff, too. Fascinating and complex fossil community.

@gigantoraptor

You're very welcome for the fossils - you definitely earned them since you managed to figure out my "mystery message" a few weeks ago!

I'm glad the fossils arrived safely and that you like them - I, too, love hash plates

Congratulations again on the win!

Monica

Hi mailbox enthusiast

Today I received an awesome fossilised bison horn.  It measures approx 13" long and approx 6” tall.    There is a tiny sticker inside which reads Maxey Peterborough 2/1/84. I did some research and there is not that much Bison material found in the uk. I  did after some time start looking online at nearby  museums to Maxey and found one that has locally found Bison bones in their collection. So the label is good I think. Quite rare for the UK Sorry the picture is not great.

I was just thinking about the Bison and the links to early man . Sometimes it is nice just to stand back and wonder about the specimens in our collections, even more so when the history is close and entwined.

It’s a depiction of a bison from the cave of Altamira in Spain, painted during the paleolithic period, around 22,000 years ago . The image is from the Smithsonian

A couple of Burmese amber pieces with insects.  Found on a certain auction site for a cheap price and free shipping. I need to read up taking pictures of amber to see if I can show the bugs. One is a beetle and the other a fly.IMG_20190116_193709505.thumb.jpg.756e8a37579e0f9d7a6e6cd3a532b4b2.jpg
