Today I received 2 packages in the mail, though they are not fossils, they are fossil related. First up was an early Valentines Day gift from my wife.

Membrane Display Cases

4- Large Rectangle Cases

3- Large Square Cases

6- Medium Square  Cases

4- Small Square Cases

Next was a copy of the February 2016 Florida Paleontological Society Special Paper: Fossil Sharks and Rays of Gainesville Creeks - Alachua County, Florida: Hawthorn Group (Middle Miocene to Lower Pliocene).  This is a very nice publication with large 8.5" by 11" color plates of the fossils.

After almost a month of waiting my christmas present has finally arrived.

The first one is a cetacean rib bone with what are suppose to be bite marks on it (probablly procured by a scavenging shark), Miocene, South Carolina.

The second one is a chunk of dinosaurian/reptilian bone from the Kem Kem beds that shows the same pattern.

As a gift the seller also sent me what is probably a crocodilian leg bone (always from Kem Kem), it was very nice of him.

Double post, how did that happen?

Hmmm.

I have just spent the most part of an hour typing a glowing report of my latest mailbox score and shrinking my pictures so they'd fit and pressed send and the whole lot just vanished into the ether.

Very, very annoying.

Yesterday, the postman arrived with a lovely little box for me, containing some delicious goodies sent by the incomparable Doren @caldigger . In excitement, I tore it open with my teeth and was not disappointed with its contents. Doren is not only kind and thoughtful and clearly been studying my ramblings on threads across the forum but I also think he is psychic.  Lots of lovely things :

20180131_215105-1.thumb.jpg.427f7224ba7b3eaaaa38ef1896fdb406.jpg

First out, Rynchotrema sp. truly beautifully preserved and exquisitely detailed. I have a little Rhynchotrema from the Lower Silurian upstairs somewhere, but these are older, prettier and in better condition. They remind me of a specimen of Platystrophia that I used to own, from the later Ordovician of Richmond, Indiana, these have a similar preservation and colour (though they look a bit different). This saves me both time and money as quite honestly, this Platystrophia was next on my list of replacements, but now it's not necessary! These Rhynchotrema, are probably my favourite items in this gift, if one is permitted to have favourites among items that I love all of.

Then there's the Spinatrypa brachiopods, still really sharp and spiky. Gorgeous! I love these brachiopods.

The gastropods are lovely, Green River stuff is always exciting for those of us who live over the pond and there are more of these gastropods than I can count (I can only count to four, it should be said). The river limpets are also lovely and i have one very similar to the middle one from the raised beach deposits at Potland in Dorset, Ancyclus fluviatalis, I think, if I recall correctly. The pile of dirt in the bag must have come out of the insides of the limpets but is exciting in itself as it contains shell material and a t least a bit of a tiny gastropod, i'll check carefully when it isn't half past three in the morning.

20180131_220602-1.thumb.jpg.337b3b54815d186bc30ee23967059aa6.jpg

Now it gets really spooky.

I used to have a specimen of Dendraster gibbsi almost identical in every respect to the D. ashleyi on the right here and i had a single lonely Lovenia woodsi from Australia that I thought i'd never be able to replace when i sold both these urchins when times were hard. I've missed them and now they are back! Amazing.

To continue the Twilight Zone, I was very recently looking at reconstruction drawings of Desmostylus and looked up this weird animal on the internet, fascinated by it. Now I have its teethies! wife also became the first woman ever to be bitten by a Desmostylus (okay i poked her repeatedly with one of the teeth) .

Her favourite, though (wifey's, not Desmostylus') was the pea crab! How beautiful and sweet is that? I love it, but not as much as wifey. Very interesting to read up about   too (pea crabs, not wifey. Well probably wifey, too)

And finally the teeth of isurus planus. WoW ! ! Can't get these this side of the Atlantic so it's a great addition to my collection which is growing rapidly just now, largely down to the awesome generosity of the member of TFF

So thank you so, so much Doren for the most perfect gift imaginable. Kind, thoughtful, generous and brilliant!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. :)

PS.

Tidgy's favourite if she gets a chance will be the big Dendraster. She loves to sit on my fossils.

Genuinely love them, thanks again

Those case are great.  Picked up my first batch about a month ago and they are all used up already.   Enjoy stuffing them.  That publication looks like something I would like to get.

Thanks, Frank.

And I've just discovered that the little gastropods from Wyoming, Elimia tenera are the same species as from the little pieces of what is erroneously called "Turritella Agate" also from Wyoming! I have a couple of tumbled pieces of this, so the Elimia can complement them nicely.

Most excellent.

Nice score from Doren you’ve got there Adam. Doren always pushes the boat out. He also seems to have a pea crab mine in his garden :P

Yes, John, Doren seems to be exceedingly kind indeed. And he barely knows me.

Sometimes pea crabs are descried as symbiotes, sometimes as parasites, so perhaps there's a swarm of them living in Doren's pyjamas.  ;)

I did a trade with member flemgunner (Glenn F.) a short while ago. He had made a mold of some tracks of a theropod dinosaur and wanted some unprepped items in trade.

I had some ammonites to offer and so a trade commenced.

Here is a shot of the print and one of an artist's impression of what it looked like in life.

Pretty cool to think of having one of these Acrocanthrosaurus bad boys running through your backyard.
